Macbeth Premiers at Dock X in London: A Timeless Classic Reimagined Starring Ralph Fiennes and Indira Varma

Fresh from Dock X in Canada Water and Underbelly Entertainment, emerges a brilliant new rendition of William Shakespeare's dark drama, 'Macbeth'. This isn't merely another interpretation of the Bard's work, but rather an innovative reimagining, set in a modern, former industrial warehouse.

With set design by Frankie Bradshaw and an adaptation by Emily Burns, this production has decided against traditional theatre staging and instead, four site-specific warehouses in four iconic cities have been transformed to become the setting for this production.

This classic story of ambition, power, and raw human emotion is brought to life this February with an impressive team of seasoned theatre veterans and ambitious newcomers. Leading the cast are Ralph Fiennes and Indira Varma, both renowned actors of stage and screen.

"The commitment to clarity remains throughout. Frankie Bradshaw’s set and Asaf Zohar’s score are broodingly impressive. Varma is always great, and there’s a wonderful moment where Macbeth orders the assassination of Banquo and clear as day you see Lady M’s realise that this has gotten totally out of hand."

"The warehouse venue, astride a retail park in Fairfield, has the audience entering through a smoking battlefield with burnt trees and a barbecued car. The stage itself is a concrete bunker, doubling as a designer castle."

From meticulously crafted sets to exceptional performances, every element on the Dock X stage is designed for absolute transparency, inviting the audience into Macbeth's tormented mind. Dock X, originally a blank canvas space, has been completely transformed into a fully immersive theatre including a front of house, a stage, and racked seating holding up to 1,000 audience members.

The warehouse backdrop doesn't detract from the story's essence. Rather, it injects modernity into the plot, while preserving its original intensity — showcasing Macbeth in an entirely new light.

Combining industrial modernity with a timeless Shakespearean classic, this adaptation of Macbeth at Dock X is making waves in the London theatrical and cultural scene.
